LES BALLETS DE MONTE-CARLO - BALANCHINE - RATMANSKY - GOECKE

Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo are celebrating spring through a programme exploring a wide range of the repertoire while positioning itself under the banner of creation. The evening will open with George Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments, one of his first experimental works, merging classic steps with a refined and angular style. The ballet is inspired by the mediaeval belief that human beings are made up of four different moods which determine a person’s temperament. 

In Wartime Elegy, Alexei Ratmansky introduces us to the Ukrainian people through a work that evokes the war and devastation that his people are currently experiencing. This is not just an article about the tragedy. Stories, dances, humour and strength of community are evident everywhere. We instantly connect to laughter, exuberance and loss, recognising our common links. 

Marco Goecke will explore Schönberg’s Transfigured Night, a masterpiece with romantic accents that the great Viennese innovator dedicated to his fiancée just before their wedding: ideal music for the creation of choreographer Marco Goecke whose frenetic and moving style will enhance this youthful score.
