LES BALLETS DE MONTE-CARLO - Coppél-i.A.
December 27, 2019 - January 5, 2020
For the end of 2019, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo invites the public to discover “Coppél-i.A.”, the new creation of Jean-Christophe Maillot who marks his return to the large format narrative. The choreographer-director of the Company has taken this famous piece from the romantic repertoire that explores the world of automata to question the development of artificial intelligence in our society. “Coppél-i.A.” by Jean-Christophe Maillot projects us into the near future in which two young lovers, Frantz and Swanilda, discover carnal love at a time when their society is constantly demanding more progress, safety and hygiene. At the moment when eroticism burst into their lives, an artificial entity knocks their certainties awry and calls into question what they thought they knew about love. Is the ideal partner the flesh being we have always known or the abstract being that questions our belonging to the human race?
