The ELF musical premiered on Broadway in 2010. It is based on the 2003 film of the same name. Music is by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (the duo who wrote the music for the musical The Prom). The libretto is by Bob Martin (The Prom) and Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray). The show was first staged in London in 2015.
One Christmas Eve, young Buddy Hobbs mistakenly slips into Santa's sack. Transported to the North Pole, he is discovered by Santa Claus, who raises him as an elf. Years later, Buddy sets off for New York in search of the truth about his origins.
With Santa's help, he finds his father Walter Hobbs and his brother Michael. But they don't believe in Santa Claus! Buddy takes matters into his own hands and reminds his biological family - and the whole of New York City - of the true values of Christmas.
